Pathways of Transition to Organic Agriculture in Morocco

Agriculture is a vital sector in Morocco through its contribution to the gross domestic product (13%) and workforce (30%). However, faces important sustainability challenges due Morocco’s dependence on rain-fed crops for 90% of production vulnerability climate change. In this context, organic agriculture presents itself as promising alternative valorize mitigate change effects. This article describes dynamics development niche lens Multi-Level Perspective (MLP) socio-technical transitions. The MLP widely used framework that bases analysis transitions being result interaction niches, regimes, landscape. Results literature review semi-structured interviews show that, although relatively well established (11,000 ha land area 2019), it still developing at slower rate than expected multiple setbacks. While farming does solve many Moroccan faces, lacks infrastructure human capital succeed niche. All all, first transition stages can follow multitude pathways before becoming relevant current agri-food system.
